Knowing your hardware's clock source setting is imperative. Selecting one of these options insures your unit will not drift apart from other audio streams during playback or recording. Considering this, you will find "Built-In Input" (for resolving your hardware to your computer's Built-In Input), and any other connected MOTU or third-party interface listed.

Use the MOTU SMPTE Setup (Mac OS X) / MOTU SMPTE Console (Win) application for configuration. This allows your unit to resolve to any SMPTE timecode source, such as a multitrack tape deck.

Using this setting, your hardware operates under its own digital audio clock, and is the appropriate choice when recording only analog inputs, or when simply playing audio tracks from disk.

Check out the Product Manuals page to read up on the specifics of your hardware. Keep in mind, the options you see will vary based on which audio interface you are using. Here is a quick run-down of the choices you might have available. The clock source setting determines which digital audio clock is being used as your hardware's time base. Often misunderstood, arguably your hardware's most important setting is "Clock Source". After successfully running the Universal Audio Installer, (found on the Downloads Page), reach for the appropriate application to adjust settings like sample rate and output assignments. In Failsafe mode, the Nanoclocks is a distributor that monitors the two inputs and performs an automatic switchover of all 12 outputs if the primary Word Clock signal present at the inputs should be interrupted.Your MOTU hardware operates based on the settings made in the MOTU Audio Setup (Mac OS X) / MOTU Audio Console (Win) application.

In Generator mode, Nanoclocks supports 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, 192kHz, and Super Clock sample rates. Input A supports sample rates from 32 to 100 kHz, while input B handles sample rates between 32 and 200 kHz, including Super Clock (Fs x256). In Distributor Mode, Word Clock inputs can be routed individually to each of the 12 outputs. Brightly lit LEDs show incoming sample rates for each input and routing status for the outputs. 2 Word Clock inputs and 12 outputs are controlled by a programmable output matrix. A Word Clock distributor with integrated audio master clock generator.
